Biography

Jean-Pierre Bratanoff-Firgoff is of French origin, and moved to Australia in the early 1980s. When he moved to Australia he started commercial work for advertising agencies. He has extensive experience in film and digital photography in studios or on locations.

Nowadays he tends to concentrate his photographic output on fine art images. Some of his most famous series are:

  • Under The Tip of Bondi Iceberg
  • images of the very famous ‘rock pool’ on Bondi Beach
  • Trees
  • BW infra reds, colour and photographic montages
  • City Zen, a collection of images from smoke ceremonies as well as fine details of rock formations and their textures.

Jean-Pierre writes: "I like an image when it is subtle rather than in your face. Often people like the message slapped in the face, so that it’s strong, clear and quick consumed...But I find subtlety richer, slower and more memorable. I like an image that leaves you wondering."

This is exactly how one feels when one looks at his images there is always more to discover.

Jean-Pierre adds: " When an image looks even better years after you first saw it, that’s it...you can’t do better than that."
