David Boyd

Biography

Born Melbourne 1924, brother of Arthur Boyd and Guy Boyd. Painter, potter. Studied at family pottery, Murrumbeena, prior to WW2 when he served in the army, then studied painting at NGV School 1945-46. In 1947 he moved to Sydney and established a pottery with his brother Guy. He married Hermia Lloyd-Jones, a talented painter, who decorated his pots, which they named 'Hermia Ware'. They lived in England and France 1950-55, working in decorative ceramics. On his return to Melbourne he concentrated on painting, exhibiting the Explorer series in 1958 and the Tasmanian series in the Antipodeans scholarship 1961, and lived in England and France until 1975. Has exhibited extensively in Australia and overseas. David's work shows the influence of his brother Arthur and of John Perceval.

His work is held in: Art Gallery of NSW, Art Gallery of SA, Art Gallery of WA, as well as many regional galleries, University and corporate collections.
