Martin King

Martin King holds an MA (Fine Arts), Monash University, a Post Grad Diploma (Fine Art), Sydney College of the Arts, and a Grad Dip (Fine Art & Design), Monash University. Having travelled extensively overseas and in Australia, Martin currently lives and works in Melbourne where he is Senior Printmaker at the Australian Print Workshop.

King's work is informed by varied terrains throughout Australia, often focusing on arid desert regions. His semi-abstracted landscapes follow the natural rhythms and undulations of the earth, as seen from an aerial perspective. Shapes that float on the surface could be the shadows of clouds, or formations of the earth. King expresses his unique view of the landscape using printmaking techniques along with oil and encaustic paintings.

King's work is held is recipient of 2003 McGivern Art Prize; 2002 Arts Victoria Grant, Drawing Dust Exhibition. His work is held in numerous collections including the British Museum, London; Australian National Gallery; National Gallery of Victoria; Art Gallery of NSW; Art Gallery of South Australia; Queensland State Library; Artbank; Macquarie Bank and the James Hardy Collection.
